CHADS2 Score: Its Predictive Capacity in Clinical Practice

چکیده
We have read the recently published article entitled “CHADS2 score in predicting cerebrovascular events–a metaanalysis” by Santos et al. 1. They show the results derived from a meta-analysis on the usefulness of CHADS2 score to predict cerebrovascular events. Many strategies have been developed to predict the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF)2. The majority of these have shown modest prediction capacity, with poor results in clinical practice.

CHADS2 score has a better predictive value than CHA2DS2-VASc score in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation
AIM The study aims to compare the ability of CHA2DS2-VASc (defined as congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years [two scores], type 2 diabetes mellitus, previous stroke, transient ischemic attack, or thromboembolism [TE] [doubled], vascular disease, age 65-74 years, and sex category) and CHADS2 (defined as congestive heart failure, hypertension, age ≥75 years, type 2 diabetes mellitu...
متن کاملComparative Performance of ATRIA, CHADS2, and CHA2DS2-VASc Risk Scores Predicting Stroke in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation: Results From a National Primary Care Database.
BACKGROUND Previous studies report that CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc risk scores have similar discriminating ability (C statistic ∼0.6). Recently a clinically based risk score, the ATRIA (Anticoagulation and Risk Factors in Atrial Fibrillation) study risk score, was developed and validated. OBJECTIVES This study compared predictive ability of CHA2DS2-VASc and CHADS2 ischemic stroke risk scores wit...
متن کاملThe value of the CHA2DS2-VASc score for refining stroke risk stratification in patients with atrial fibrillation with a CHADS2 score 0-1: a nationwide cohort study.
North American and European guidelines on atrial fibrillation (AF) are conflicting regarding the classification of patients at low/intermediate risk of stroke. We aimed to investigate if the CHA2DS2-VASc score improved risk stratification of AF patients with a CHADS2 score of 0-1. Using individual-level-linkage of nationwide Danish registries 1997-2008, we identified patients discharged with AF...
متن کاملInterpretable classifiers using rules and Bayesian analysis: Building a better stroke prediction model
We aim to produce predictive models that are not only accurate, but are also interpretable to human experts. Our models are decision lists, which consist of a series of if . . . then. . . statements (e.g., if high blood pressure, then stroke) that discretize a high-dimensional, multivariate feature space into a series of simple, readily interpretable decision statements. We introduce a generati...
متن کاملCHADS2 scores as a predictor of ischemic stroke after radical prostatectomy.
Patients with prostate cancer have an increased risk of stroke, but their absolute rate of stroke depends on age and comorbid conditions. The Charlson Comorbidity Index Score (CCIS) is a widely accepted measure for risk adjustment in administrative claims data sets. This study assesses the predictive value of CHADS2 scores and CCIS for stroke among patients with prostate cancer. The study was c...
